The homes are run by the “Seamen’s Day Council”, an organisation drawn from seamen’s societies in Reykjavík and other municipalities in the metropolitan area. Originally, the Hrafnista homes were intended for retired seamen and their widows, but they are now open to all who need residential or nursing-home facilities in their old age. Hrafnista makes a priority of high-quality nursing and medical care, rehabilitation and varied social activities.
