William was just hired as an assistant curator at Metropolitan Museum of Art when the procedure was stopped by Robert Lehman, the vice president, who wanted William to work for him. Working at the Lehman Collection he was more a guide than a curator but he met a lot of famous people and had a good relationship with his boss.
